10 Week Challenge

10 Week Challenge: Week 5 Wrap Up

Made it through week 5 and officially at the half way point of this Challenge!

Training

This week’s training was quite a bit different from the previous 4 weeks. 6 lifts per week in a Push/Pull/Leg format. The workouts took me about 50-60 minutes to complete, limited rest between sets and great intensity. Reps have increased from 8-12 range to 10-15…I’m not a fan of higher reps. But outside of the high reps, the workouts are absolutely killer. Kind of happy that this phase is only 3 weeks…hopefully the last 5 weeks fly by.

Still not completely hating on cardio. I have set cardio up so I’m doing 30-minute Intervals on Mondays and Thursdays and 30-minute HIIT on Tuesdays and Fridays. And random on Saturday…may have accidentally skipped cardio yesterday because I forgot it was bumped up to 5 not 4 days/week. No cardio on Wednesdays. And Sundays are completely off.

Diet

This week’s menu:

  • Meal 1: ½ c egg whites, 2 eggs, 1 slice turkey bacon 40g oats, cinnamon, 2tbsp sugar free syrup [OR] ¾ c egg whites, 2 slices turkey bacon, 35g broccoli, 1 low carb wrap (I used Tumaro’s), 14g cheerios
  • Meal 2: 6oz nonfat Greek yogurt, 100g blueberries, 8g chia seeds, 1tbsp almond butter
  • Meal 3: 4oz 93% ground turkey, 120g wild rice, 15 almonds
  • Meal 4: 4oz chicken, 4.5oz sweet potato, 80g cauliflower
  • Post-workout: 1½ scoop REL protein powder, 2 rice cakes, 36g strawberry jelly
  • Other: 1 almond butter banana bread muffin, 1tbsp peanut butter

20180826_152432Not a bad menu for the week. Again, I switched between 2 breakfasts this week to add variety and to save some food.

And this upcoming week’s meal prep…haven’t felt like I’m lacking food at all while starting this challenge.

Total side note: Something that I have been focusing a lot on throughout this challenge is the amount of money I’m spending each week on groceries. I work my meals: 1) around the meal plan options that I’ve been provided on the challenge, and 2) around what I may/may not have in my house already. I make sure I don’t over buy on anything and if I do, I freeze it if possible, so I can use it the following week. I used to buy way too much produce, thinking that I was going to use it and then I either wouldn’t need all of it or I would completely forget about it and it’d go bad…either way it led to wasted money and food. So I’m really happy that I’ve been planning and tracking as much as I have been, even though it may seem a little obsessive.

Challenges this week

So, as you know, I had a cheat meal last Sunday, which was fantastic. Throughout this challenge, I had no intentions of eating out except on days of a cheat meal. Well, this weekend to wrap up week 5 I ate out twice.

Saturday – my parents were in NH and we decided to do breakfast since I probably won’t be home until November. We went to Country Cook’n in Epsom, where I had an their Mexican omelet – which was egg beaters (per request), 3 cheese-blend, and spicy ground beef with 2 slices of whole wheat toast…would have had homefries and the toast if I wasn’t on this challenge, but instead I just opted for the toast.

Sunday – Limitless Fitness had a team outing with Portsmouth Paddle Co. and then went out to lunch after at Latitudes in Portsmouth, where I had their Asian Noodle Salad – noodles, chicken, greens, carrots. Nothing too horrible.

To avoid disaster and completely f*cking up my diet and success in this challenge, I checked the restaurants menus before going. Menu checking for Latitudes was kind of hard prior since it wasn’t the restaurant that we originally made reservations at, but oh well.

Thoughts

5 weeks in and I’m happy with where I’m at. Looking back on the 1st 4 weeks, where my body was at as far as looks and how I felt in general, that’s where I want to be post-challenge. I think my body is happiest when I’m taking in around 1,900-2,100 calories and at a carb level that’s high but not drastic.

1535239020557I’ve started making a list of foods that I want post challenge…one of those foods is a giant cinnamon bun, but not just any cinnamon bun. Lindsey Stirling (amazing electronic violinist) posted one from Cinnaholics which isn’t located anywhere near here. But the 1st week of October I’ll be in Washington visiting a friend and Cinnaholics is opening a location in Seattle in October…Also got this coupon, so uh yeah that’s happening post-challenge too.

5 weeks left to go and I think it’s going to fly by. Next weekend, I will be in Lake Placid, NY visiting my brother and his wife and their new baby girl. Following weekend, I have something planned that I will share later AND it’s my 2nd refeed. Then from there it should be a breeze (hopefully).
