    Trip to Lake Placid, NY

I don’t really like traveling while on a calorie restriction and deep into my competition prep…but I’ll make an exception for my family.😉 Since my niece was born in August, I have been trying to make trips to Lake Placid, NY to see my family at least once a month. After the holidays it become a bit tough due to prep, work, and my brothers work/travel schedule. My brother and his wife work for a ski education program in Lake Placid, my brother being the head coach for the Nordic ski program becomes pretty busy with coaching and traveling throughout the winter months.  This past weekend was the 1st weekend…

    Prep 2019: 7 Weeks Out

You Can. You Will. You can, you will, the mantra that I keep repeating every single day, and it is getting me through.  As of yesterday, I am 7 weeks out from my 1st show of the season! I am feeling pretty good. I have been making some changes over the last week and starting to see the adjustments that I want to see, still have a ways to go though. I am registered for the OCB Pine Tree State (yay!). I am extremely excited to be competing in the Pine again this year, I had a great experience with it last year being my 2nd show ever. April 13,…

    Prep 2019: 10 Weeks Out…and 2 Days

WORK. TRAIN. EAT. SLEEP. REPEAT. 72 days seems pretty far away, but April 13th and 27th are just around the corner. The last 3 weeks, I’ve just been chugging along. I think this season so far is progressing much better than last. My understanding and control over my food and eating habits has greatly improved compared to last year. Strangely, I’m a lot more relaxed my planning, I’m not obsessing over the meal plans, and am being much more logical about how I navigate through my macronutrient and training changes every few weeks. I’m tuning into my body, my moods, and how things are day to day, and adjusting as…

    Prep 2019: 13 Weeks out

It’s been a bit since I last updated on where I’m at with my current contest prep situation. I’m 88 days out or 12 weeks and 4 days from my 1st show — the OCB Pine Tree State in Westbrook, ME…but who’s counting? I started prep the Sunday following Thanksgiving, the decision to start at about 20 weeks out was made so I could mentally get myself in the game as well as have some buffer room around the Christmas/New Years time. Last year, I did not do that and allowed myself quite a bit of freedom through Christmas and New Years and even a couple weeks following….but I learned…

    Keep It Simple

Every Sunday, I cook. Why? Because it makes life just a bit simpler and at least 1 part of my week will be a success. 2 years ago, meal prep was not even on my radar, at least not to the point it is today. 2 years ago, I made every excuse not to meal prep, some being the following: It’s too expensive It’s time consuming The food will be wasted I don’t have time I don’t know what to make I can’t eat the same thing every single day My excuse 2 years ago: I was an incredibly busy college student, working 20+ hours a week on top of…

    W.H.O.O.P.I.E

What is WHOOPIE? The acronym was developed by Gabriele Oettingen, author of Rethinking Positive Thinking, and built upon by Ben Bergeron, the author of Chasing Excellence as well as a host of the Chasing Excellence podcast. People are good at stating a goal, but when it comes to planning and executing, most are at a loss of how to outline the steps to achieve their goal. The acronym provides a template for setting and reaching your goals. The breakdown: Wish – What’s your grand vision/goal? Hope – What excites you?  Outcome – SMART goals Obstacles – What could get in the way of you reaching your goals? Plan – Step-by-step…

    Goodbye 2018. Hello 2019!

Yesterday, I left my parents house in Western Mass to head back to New Hampshire, which gave me a good 4 hours to reflect on this past year. Throughout this month, I have been doing a lot of reflection on 2018 because of the journals that I talked about in a previous post (see here), and because the year is coming to a close in just 5 days. In my drive back it led me to what I know and what I do not know going into 2019. This knowledge is humbling and scary at the same time. The things that I do know are… I have the best support…

    Did You Meal Prep?

Happy Monday! Sunday’s are my big day of meal prepping for the week. Sometimes its a quick prep and other days it takes almost the entire day depending on what I am making. This week I decided to stay simple. Wednesday, I will be hopping on a bus to NYC for Lindsey Stirling’s Wanderland tour (this will be my 5th time seeing her, and 2nd winter tour…not in love with her or her music at all😂). The trip is 6 hours from New Hampshire to NYC 🙄 — therefore I am bringing plenty of food. And I’ll be heading back Thursday mid-day = packing 2 days worth of food. My…

    Competition Prep: 19 Weeks Out

Thanksgiving has come and gone, which means prep begins on Monday (which is tomorrow!). I hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving festivities. I made my way out to Lake Placid, NY to spend the holiday with my parents and brother, and his wife, daughter, and his in-laws. There was so much food…we probably could have called it a day with the number of appetizers we had. My sister-in-law asked us all to bring about 2 things to Thanksgiving, so I chose an appetizer and dessert. The appetizer I made was Paleo Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Meatballs —- sooo good. And for the dessert I made GF Mini Pumpkin Cheesecakes. But…
